JoAnn and Steve Narewski

Joann has been involved in Children's Ministry in her local church since 1981. I like to work with the "Little Ones"  4 and 5 year olds; they are just my size!!!!!  I attended my first TNT Clown Conference in August of 2003. I have been clowning for about 6 short years now but the TNT Conferences and Workshops have been instrumental in my "Growth" as a clown.  My favorite clowning has been Hospital Clowning, Steve is my policeman husband can get me into any place.  I have special access to the Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina: the Emergency Room Areas and the Children's areas.  It has been a real privilege to be able to gain the respect of the doctors, nurses and staff at this hospital and to minister to the patients.

CLASSES

JoAnn and Steve will be heading up one of the clown alleys (a great time to make new friends and have some good fellowship)

JoAnn Narewski's Class

Care and Feeding of a Clown Troupe :  There are many ‘secrets’ to growing a successful clown troupe, but none of them will work…unless you do.  And they won't work unless you know them!   We will learn how to avoid pitfalls and discuss ‘secrets’ that sustain a troupe through conflict, tension, and best of all success.  Passing on the Passion of Clowning with the proper education and mentoring of those that are interested will produce a Clown Troupe that looks forward to monthly or bi weekly meetings.

Steve Narewski's Classes will be Taught daily. Both of these classes are a must for all students.

Safety in clowning… You will learn how to recognize the warning signs of an impending assault and the behaviors of the aggressor.

Recognition of the subconsciously telegraphed cues.
The first requirement for maintaining our personal safety is to harness the unconscious aspect of the human mind both ours and that of the attacker. We should look for the inadvertent cues that will indicate an impending attack. We will be looking for the specific nonverbal signals that are usually displayed by those individuals that intend to harm others.

These signals escape from the unconscious part of the human mind and will be displayed in a form of obvious body language that is readily observed. Our goal is to focus on recognizing the subconscious cues and then preemptively acting in a manner that disturbs the rhythm and mindset of the opposition.

Some of the “telegraphed” indicators of a person’s hostile intent are:

            1.                 Scanning.

2.                 The target glance.

3.                 Clenching.

4.                 Eye blinks.

5.                 The boxer’s stance.

6.                 Flanking.

7.                 Hesitation in response.

These are just a few of the verbal, nonverbal and paralinguistic indicators that an assault is forthcoming.  Recognizing and then understanding the importance of these signals on a conscious level may be the difference between avoiding the assault or becoming the victim of a serious assault.

Our subconscious mind processes information at light speed and operates independently of the conscious mind. Therefore we want to train ourselves to recognize certain signals early in order to narrow the processing time between observation and action. This action is designed to get inside the operational loop that has been executed against us and disrupt that behavior.

Steve is a retired US Army Warrant Officer that has been a Police Officer since 2000. Steve currently specializes in sexual assault, domestic violence and juvenile investigations for a department of 350 officers.

The use of props to resolve conflicts… We will focus on the use of the clown's props to resolve the conflict and reduce aggressive behavior.
